“We care; we love; we support”

Digital Imaging Publication Sdn Bhd and top Malaysian Celebrities lend a collective hand in creating awareness on the plight of animals via 2010 Animal Charity Calendar Kuala Lumpur, 29 October 2009: Because animals cannot speak for themselves, it takes special people to stand up and speak on their behalf. Charities such as the Society for the Protection of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) and Malaysian National Aanimal
Welfare Foundation (MNAWF) do this regularly with the help and dedication of warmhearted individuals who offer their time and effort to assist.

Amber Chia, Malaysian supermodel, business-woman, and animal lover has wanted for a long time to use her public persona to work with such deserving charities to help animals. She brainstormed many ideas to achieve this, and it was only after a
conversation between businessman friend, K.L. Yeam of Digital Imaging Publication Sdn Bhd, that the concept for a charity calendar was born. Yeam’s company publishes Pets Lover magazine, and their combined love for animals lead to the obvious.

Amber is lucky to have some amazingly creative and supportive friends who believe in the same cause. She roped in a few of her celebrity friends – TV host, actress and radio deejay, Jojo Struys; radio personality, TV host and emcee extraordinaire, Serena C; and well-known Chinese TV host and actress, Wong Chui Ling (Angel) – all of whom
gave their time for free, to do a photo shoot with their beloved pets. “My friends who supported me with this project have done an amazing job. They are all pet lovers too, and it’s great for everyone to see a different side of us, that is, with our pets” says Chia. “In addition, our publisher and all our sponsors have been so generous in helping us to share with everyone our love for animals”.

The concept of the calendar is based around the motto “we care; we love; we support”. Animals are an integral part of many peoples’ lives; and for many of us, they are treated as a member of our family. Without them, we feel lost or alone, as they are there to give us comfort and support, and do this without asking anything in return.

Jacinta Johnson, spokesperson from the SPCA says, "SPCA Selangor is excited and honoured to be one of the beneficiaries for this charity calendar project. It'sencouraging to see the celebrities pitching in to help the animals by using their influence to promote responsible pet ownership. As pet owners and animal lovers learn to treat their own pets kindly, we really hope that people will also remember the plight of homeless, abandoned and neglected animals in Malaysia as they look at their calendars - everyday they can be the difference they wish to see in the lives of these animals."

Likewise, MNAWF Director Dato’ Dr Mohd Nordin bin Mohd Nor would also “like to thank [Amber and KL Yeam] for selecting MNAWF to participate in this charity campaign towards creating awareness on animal welfare”.

The calendar will be published by Digital Imaging Publication Sdn Bhd, and will be available in most MPH, Popular and Borders bookstores at a price of RM 19.90. From this, RM 10.00 is directed to both charities; with RM 5.00 going to the SPCA, and RM 5.00 going to the MNAWF.
