"Behaviour, Training & Human - Animal Bond" Course

The above course is being held in Sequim, Washington from 23 November to 5 December 1999.

The course instructor, Terry Ryan, is a world leading animal behaviourist and trainer, also author of training books and various publications on human-animal bond. She has successfully organised animal instructors to work with the public in several countries, including Australia and Japan.

A wide range of essential topics and practical sessions are included in the training, among the topics are : role of companion animals in society, puppy & adult dog training, problem solving toolbox & case histories, homeopathic/herbal remedies and lateral thinking. Participants will learn various skills, including how to evaluate temperament of animals and handle existing behaviour problems. Besides providing a good foundation for new instructors, it could be the start of an animal instructor's course for those who are interested to upgrade in this and a source of training for those wishing to make a full time career in this field. It would help equip one to structure training classes for the specific needs of a community.

The course would be of benefit to veterinarians, veterinary students, breeders, animal instructors/trainers and pet owners. We believe there is extensive potential for us in this area. The Foundation aims to utilise the training and instructor's expertise to build a team of local instructors, who in turn can assist our society, for example, in schools and welfare centres to assist with harmonising children and the disabled with animals. The knowledge gained would help in our education programmes aimed at reducing the number of unwanted animals ending up as strays because of behavioural problems.
