Beauty Pageant For Exotic Birds No More Pets |
Beauty Pageant For Exotic Birds MNAWF together with Persatuan Ayam Cantik Kuala
Lumpur & Selangor and
City Square Kuala Lumpur organised the first 'Chicken Beauty Contest'
for Ayam Serama and Ayam Kapan owners residing in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.
The one-day event was held at City Square shopping centre, Kuala Lumpur
on 4 December 1999. The objective was to expose city folk to such an event and bring together Ayam Serama enthusiasts as well as encourage membership to the Persatuan Ayam Cantik. Although for many it was a unique and exciting experience, such a contest is not new in the kampungs. The exotic birds which are of small size (weighing slightly more than 500 grams) and possess feathers of eye-catching colours, make them beautiful and adorable pets. The appearance, regal poise, crown, colours and elegant two-tail fin of the Ayam Serama breed have all the qualities of a prized breed and can fetch between RM3,000 to RM18,000 a bird. About 120 owners participated in the competition to showcase their elegant birds. The birds were judged on the basis of appearance, built, tail fins, chest, wings, crown and walk, among other characteristics. The 'fairest of them all' was an Ayam Serama from Kelantan owned by Rashidah Abdul Rahman. It is also aimed to organise more such shows at national or international level in the near future to promote the keeping of these exotic birds as pets as well as educate owners on proper care and responsibility. For further information or membership inquiries, please contact Encik Jamani bin Lekli, Persatuan Ayam Cantik Kuala Lumpur & Selangor, Tel: 03-457 2450 (home) or 03-6130 2479 (office-NB: this is not office of Persatuan Ayam Cantik but En.
