Pet Education Program in Schools
Following our visit to the ostrich park and petting zoo, the children who attended were invited to write an essay on their experience at the park to see if they enjoyed the activities and learnt something from the trip.

We have included here two of the essays submitted by the students, who won prizes for their efforts.

In September and October, we continued our visits to the schools to conduct brief talks on pet care and award prizes for the winning essays. Our two ‘teachers’, Chabbie Parveen Gopal and Maple Loo, (MNAWF members) introduced to the children the basic requirements in caring for a pet. While Chabbie carried her Rovorosky hamster to SJK(T) Vivekananda, Maple tagged her two tortoises along to SJK(C) Serdang Baru 1 and SK Jalan Semenyih 2. This had the children crowding around them, and served as an ice-breaker for the teaching.

The response we had was very encouraging, with the students actively participating in a Q&A session and showing keen interest in learning more about animals.

The school program will break in October for school exams and holidays and resume in February 2003.
