"Children & Pets" program launches Pet Care Education for Schools |
Kempen Kembiri The Foundation is participating in a six-month spay/neuter campaign termed "Kempen Kembiri" organised by Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur. Kempen Kembiri will be launched on 11 May 2002 to commemorate World Veterinary Day. It is also supported by the Department of Veterinary Services, Veterinary Association of Malaysia, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine-Universiti Putra Malaysia, Small Animal Practitioners Association of Malaysia, SPCA and Malaysian Kennel Association. This campaign follows discussions held with DBKL on its Licensing of Dogs and Kennel Establishments (Federal Territory) (Amendment) By Laws 2001 and is aimed at reducing overbreeding and overpopulation of companion animals. Kempen Kembiri will be carried out at the end of May this year until the end of November and will be conducted at the following four government centers, Jabatan Haiwan W/Persekutuan-Jinjang, DBKL Setapak, Intitute of Medical Research (IMR) and Makmal Veterinar Jabatan Haiwan-Petaling Jaya. The public will be able to obtain registration forms from these centers and call for an appointment. Spay/neuter operations will be held every Sunday for an estimated 100 dogs per day. Approximately 2,000 animals are expected to be spayed/neutered over the six-month duration of the campaign. The Foundation is offering its support on the spay/neuter campaign in the areas of publicity and education. It will work with DBKL, DVS, SAPAM and SPCA to promote the campaign by creating awareness among the public on the health and behavioural benefits of spaying/neutering their dogs and advocating spaying/neutering as part of responsible pet ownership. |
